The first of my Year 12 exams have arrived.
Tomorrow is my last day of school before the two week exam period begins. I keep telling myself to relax. Breathe. It'll all be ok. But in reality, I am not relaxed - I'm practically hyperventilating. And no, everything does not feel like it's going to be ok.
This is the line-up (and yes, you read correctly, maths and chemistry are on the same day. Teachers really are cruel):
Monday May 28: German (Speaking Only) - the worst exam of them all, in my opinion. I hate sitting there, being watched and recorded and judged. Give me a written exam any day.
Tuesday May 29: Literature - three essays in three hours. One of which is to be written on an unseen poem. Eeek! My other texts this semester are The Poisonwood Bible (which, I have now realised, isn't actually all that bad) and Medea (which is quite interesting). Hopefully I can come up with something good to write about them both.
Wednesday May 30: Biology - one of my better subjects. It's a lot to remember and explain, though. It's also one of the shorter exams, so hopefully I don't run out of time!
Tuesday June 5: Maths & Chemistry - my least favourite subjects. Both on the same day. Eugh. I think the maths exams is first. And then Chem. Please please please let me pass!
Wednesday June 6: German (Writing, Listening and Reading) - not quite as bad as the speaking, but still pretty bad. German is one of my favourite classes, but I find the listening section of the exam really hard because the tapes are usually crackly and the people speak really fast. About stupid topics that no one ever really talks about.
So, yeah, that's my life, pretty much. I'm hoping to do as well as possible so that I can go to uni next year and do...something. I'm not sure what yet. Possibly speech pathology, or occupational therapy. I think those two sound kind of interesting, but I'm not sure.

checking in
Before I start, I would first like to say a HUGE 'thank you' to Francesca of Eiffel Tower Designs for helping me give my blog a much-needed makeover. I absolutely love the new design!
To be honest, I don't have a lot to write about today. I've been so busy with school that I haven't had time to do much else. I did go to my school's production of The Wizard of Oz about two weeks ago - it was awesome, by the way. One of my teachers was in charge of the stage props, and I have to say, they looked amazing.
I've mostly been studying for the millions (okay, three) chemistry tests that I had this week, and I've spent most of today writing out biology notes on homeostasis (fun fun) in preparation for the test I have on Monday. It is one of many. I have a maths test the same day, and a German speaking test, which means I am pretty much thinking in German right now. The topics we have covered this year seem so unnecessary - I mean, if I actually went to Germany, I'm pretty sure knowing how to tell people the dangers of smoking, drugs and alcohol wouldn't be very helpful. (By the way: Rauchen und Drogen machen sehr süchtig und sie können zu Krankheiten wie Krebs führen. Viele Jugendliche trinken Alkohol, weil sie denken, dass sie sehen sehr 'cool' aus). That's what we're talking about in German this term - as well as problems that teenagers face, keeping healthy, and growing up. Yay.
I have my exams coming up in two weeks so I'm pretty much just really depressed at the moment. Luckily, my parents dragged me and my sister (who is also busy with assignments for her architecture course) out of the house this evening to walk along the beach. If there's one place in the world that can make me feel calm and happy and slightly less depressed about the upcoming exams, that beach is it. We watched the sun go down, and it was just really beautiful.
I'm gunna leave you with a song that I'm loving at the moment. They're a local band that I saw live at the auditions for Australia's Got Talent.

Hope you're all having a great weekend,

death of a boiler
They say that life is easier these days.
You turn on a tap, and water flows from it. You flick a switch, and a light comes on. You press a button, and the whole world is at your fingertips.
But sometimes, things happen unexpectedly - like, the boiler (that you didn't even know existed) breaks suddenly, and it's too late to call the repair guy. That is what happened to us yesterday. We turned on the tap, and no hot water came out. 'We'll call someone out tomorrow,' my dad said. 'It'll be fixed by Monday.'
What I didn't realise was that no boiler, means no hot water. And no hot water, means no hot shower. Now, I'm not one of those girls who has a freakout if they don't shower three times a day, but the thing is, when you work in a fish and chip shop, you can't come home and NOT have a shower. The smell of the oil is disgusting. It clings to your hair and your skin. And, unfortunately, not only was I working last night, but my brother and sister were too. That meant the three of us smelled pretty bad when we got home. Usually, we all fight over who gets to shower first, but last night, none of was getting too excited.
The temperature has dropped considerably over the last few weeks. Summer is well and truly over, and winter is moving in fast. I can't even stand to have a just-cold-water shower on the hottest day of summer - I sure as hell didn't want one last night!
Still, sometimes you've gotta do things you don't want to. Let me tell you, though, that I'm pretty sure I never want to have a shower like that again. It took my breath away when I stood under the water, and anyone interested in saving the environment would have been proud of me for using so little water. I hardly stayed in long enough to wash the shampoo out of my hair!
All I can say is, thank God for onesies! The all-in-one pajamas that Gi brought over from Wales for me sure did come in handy last night. Brrr. I was actually freezing.
So, you see, nothing is absolutely perfect. Even in this day and age. When the boiler dies, the boiler dies, and sometimes a cold shower is inevitable. I'm just grateful that the guy came today to install a new boiler, and when I get home from work tomorrow night, I will be able to step into a nice hot shower.
Sometimes, you don't know what you've got till it's gone. Let's just say that this was a (very cold and refreshing) wake up call, and I won't be taking the hot water for granted anytime soon!

seventeen ♥
Last Sunday, the 29th April, was my seventeenth birthday. I spent most of the day with my family (who are awesome, by the way!) and then, in the afternoon, my friend and I went to the marina for ice teas (thanks Shell!). I got some amazing presents (mostly cat-themed): the black and white jumper I'm wearing in most of the pictures, a brown satchel bag, a gold bracelet with Harley's name on it, a pair of cat pajama bottoms, a cat charm for my Pandora bracelet, a framed photo of me and Harley for my wall, and an Eggling (which is an egg full of soil and strawberry seeds that will apparently grow into a strawberry plant, but I'm not sure if it will because I'm quite possibly the worst gardener of all time!). I also received, from my brother, Taylor Swift's Speak Now concert on DVD, plus, the Journey To Fearless DVD.
Mam and Gi made my birthday cake this year, and Dad decorated it. Be sure to comment on how amazing it looks - they were all very proud of it!

curling wand...haha he's the best!
A bit of sibling love, right there!
All in all, a great day that I got to share with all my favourite people. I would have put the pictures up sooner, but I've been busy with schoolwork (seriously, I cannot wait for this year to end) and, also, we used up all our internet download for the month, so I wouldn't have been able to upload them, even if I'd had time! I hope everyone is having an awesome weekend :)

♫...my little bird...♫
Yesterday, we went to Serpentine Dam, where the parrots are wild, but also very friendly. There's a certain picnic area near the dam where a whole bunch of green 'twenty-eight' parrots hang out. We take birdseed with us whenever we go there and then the birds will actually land on you. They're really friendly, but it's kind of scary when they fly near your face and try to land on your head!
Here's a bunch of pictures we took with my camera yesterday:
Also, Ed Sheeran is coming to Perth in August! Me, George and Max are going to try and get tickets, because the concert is around Max's birthday. I'm so excited :)
